This is maddening. Apparently Apple either didn't test the AirPlay 1 and AirPlay 2 mixed setup, or is abandoning Airplay 1 devices. I'd upgrade to new Apple TV's everywhere, except they have a low cap on the number of the new ones you can stream to from a single iTunes library, and I have more rooms in the house that that, so I'm stuck with airport express for those rooms.
